Editing Tile (tracking device)

Tile is a brand of Bluetooth powered tracking devices, akin to Samsung's SmartThings or Apple's AirTags. These have varying tracking ranges, but all devices support a network consisting of other Tile users, enabling a global-scale area of detection.

== Hardware ==
The Tile uses a piezoelectric speaker, and as such, cannot be used with standard speakers as a replacement. One spring of the Tile aligns with the outer metal rim, while the other aligns with the lighter-colored inner circle.

Any Tile device with a user-replaceable battery can be disassembled and easily replaced with a permanent power source by soldering wires to the respective positive and negative terminals. As these types of Tiles all use cell batteries, the fact that the textured bottom of cell batteries are always negative, while the tops (and sides) are always positive, should be kept in mind. Tile generally uses the sides and the bottoms, and not the tops.

Most Tiles run off of a 3.3 volt power source, which is the same as what is provided by the battery.

The actual prongs for the battery are unnecessary, and can be removed by heating their base until the prongs become loose. This allows for more appropriate space for the speaker, especially useful for tighter installs.

The Tile mobile application will remind the user to change the battery on Tile devices of this type once a year, but this notification can be dismissed, as the device now has a permanent power source.

The 2022 Tile seems to use a lower voltage battery, at approximately 2.8v after measuring.

Possibly from experience... wiring it to a 3.7v source instantly fries the device. Other models of the Tile were fine at this voltage. Of course, I should have measured the new battery before soldering everything together, but I'd think assuming the cell battery to be identical as the other ones was an innocent assumption.
