The eighth track in Hikaru Utada's BADモード (BAD MODE) album, Find Love is a introspective reflection regarding their personal journey on evolving the relationship between both themselves and their peers. Thematically, Find Love starts off with an undeniably quirky instrumental arrangement that might give off a playful or casual atmosphere. My favorite part about this track is the progression from this playful vibe in the beginning, to a notably morose and sullen monologue where the listener can sense the frustration within the vocals. This progression is also notable in its instrumental.

This progression reminds me a bit of a naïve and optimistic young innocence that can easily become corrupted with sadness and depression as time goes on. A theme which also coincidentally fits for BADモード.

This specific shift, which occurs approximately two minutes and fourty-five seconds into the track, perfectly represents what BAD モード is all about. In that, even during momentary joy, these good moments can be quickly drowned out by overarching grievances if one has not fully realised their interpersonal relationships with not only others, but themselves. I really love how there is a notably dejected bass drop that comes out of the blue and only gets more sullen during the progression of the song. At this point in the song, this bass drop seems to represent an emotional decline, especially when the lyrics at this point become self-doubt, questioning, and repetitive pleadings to "find love".

This song has a Japanese variant known as キレイな人(Find Love) [Kirei na hito; ''Beautiful Person'']. However, I prefer its English version.

This is one of Utada's few songs where the Japanese counterpart is more or less based off of the English lyrics.

  • But I don't wanna be alone every day of my life...

This specific shift, which occurs approximately two minutes and forty-five seconds into the track, perfectly represents what BAD モード is all about.

This song has a Japanese variant known as キレイな人(Find Love) [Kirei na hito; Beautiful Person]. However, I prefer its Japanese version overall, though the English version still sounds perfectly well. This is one of Utada's few songs where the Japanese counterpart is more or less based off of the English lyrics.

English lyrics Comments
Some days, my heart feels miles away

My body isn't listening

Though I took whatever came my way

I'm paying for it now, baby

Well, I don't wanna lead them on

But I don't wanna see them go

'Cause I don't wanna be alone

Every day of my life

Every day of my life

So I gotta watch out

Who I share my affection with

Until I find love

'Cause I'm way too affectionate

Not gonna park my desire

Til' I

Find love, 'til I find love, 'til I find love

(Til' I find love)

For now, committed to my therapy

I train with Vicki three to five times a week

Getting stronger isn't easy, baby

Vicki is a personal trainer Utada watched on

a Peloton-like broadcast. During workouts, Vicki

mentioned that 'getting stronger isn't easy", which is

a line Hikaru took to heart.

Do I dare be vulnerable?

What if I lose all control?

But I don't wanna be alone

Every day of my life

Every day of my life

So I gotta watch out

Who I share my affection with

Until I find love

'Cause I'm way too affectionate

Not gonna park my desire

'Til I find love

'Til I find love

'Til I find love

Slow down, you won't get there by hurrying

Gonna find out if the hard work was worth it

I know it's somewhere in me

I'm just tryna find love

Just tryna find love

Just tryna find...

During this part of the song, the tempo of the song slows down, setting up as a moment of "calm realisation" before the emotive bass-drop occurs in the next phrase. I find it really captivating.
Do I dare be vulnerable?

What if I lose all control?

But I don't wanna be alone

Every day of my life

Every day of my life...

Every day of my life

Find love, 'til I find love, 'til I find love

Find love, 'til I find love, 'til I find love (every day of my life)

Find love, 'til I find love, 'til I find love

Find love, 'til I find love, 'til I find love (every day of my life)

Do I dare be vulnerable?

What if I lose all control?

But I don't wanna be alone

Every day of my life

Do I dare be vulnerable?

What if I lose all control?

But I don't wanna be alone

Every day of my life

The atmosphere of the song really starts to build up here before

what I consider is the perfect reduction to from coasting chaos to ambience.

Gonna find out if the hard work was worth it

I know it's somewhere in me

I'm just tryna find love
